Installation Steering Committee Suriname for Sustainable Forest Livelihoods project

The Suriname Steering Committee of the European Union (EU) funded Sustainable Forest Livelihoods (SFL) project has been officially installed on February 19th 2024.

The  Suriname Steering Committee of the European Union (EU) funded Sustainable Forest Livelihoods (SFL) project has been officially installed on February 19th 2024. 

The four-year SFL project (2023-2027), will be implemented in both Guyana and Suriname, with exchange of knowledge at all levels, being one of the key assets. The project, with a total amount of EUR 5M for Suriname, will address value chain management and livelihood development with/from the forest in an integrated and sustainable manner, leading to better conservation and more balanced use of the forest and its natural resources in Suriname.

The steering committee provides strategic guidance and support to the implementing parties, consisting of Agence Française de Développement (AFD), WWF-Guianas and the Forest Supervision Foundation (SBB). This advisory body comprises representatives of the Association of Indigenous Village Leaders in Suriname (VIDS), the , the ministries of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation (BIBIS), Natural Resources (NH) Regional Development and Sports (ROS), Land Policy and Forest Management (GBB), Finance and Planning, Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZ), and Spatial Planning and Environment (ROM). Accompanied by AFD, the EU, WWF-Guianas and Forest Management and SBB. Additional representation from the business community will be added in the role of observer.
